General Information

Project area general description
The state of Kansas is the active project area.
Are any areas excluded?
These are indicated in the map display with a cross-hatch pattern and are mapped when flow is significantly affected by regulations or diversions (i.e. dams). Regulated streams are excluded from the peak flow estimates.  Mainstem of the Arkansas River iscompletely excluded for delineations, basin characteristics, and peak calculations because of the inability to map non-contributing area into the headwaters in the adjacent State of Colorado.
Types of flow statistics available
Peak flows statewide at ungaged sites
ArcGIS version used for processing
10.2.2
Was TopoGrid used to process DEMs?
not used
DEM and derivatives projection (general description)
USA_Contiguous_Albers_Equal_Area_Conic_USGS_version
WKID: 102039  (central meridian: -100.0, standard parallels:  29.5 and 45.5, latitude of origin:  23.0)
DEM and derivatives (fdr, fac, etc.) resolution
30 meters
DEM source
USGS 3DEP 1 arc-second DEM (commonly referred to as 30m NED)
Hydrography source
NHDPlus Version 2 raster processing units 10a, 10b, 11c, and 11d modified some to indicate connectivity
Hydrologic unit "walls" source
NHDPlus version 2 production team used the 12-digit Hydrologic Unit (HUC 12) divides from the Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) as ridgeline enforcement input in a process called "walling" in the production of hydro-enforced DEMs.  Dates of WBD snapshots used were as follows VPU 10L on October 7, 2011 and VPUs 11 on December 2, 2011 (from NHDPlus v2.10 metadata)
Gage basin boundaries source
not used
Interactive map snapping tolerance
3 cells.  Represents the number of pixels that user-click is allowed to shift to snap to the stream grid.  Stream grid is only visible at zoom level 15.
